Hot Oven Enclosure: Check Insulation Continuity

Roll of Vitcas ceramic fibre blanket

If the oven enclosure heats differently than before, start by comparing usage and construction. A stronger fire, longer baking, and layer damage can give different results. The mere presence of a ceramic fibre blanket does not prove that the insulation is continuous throughout the cross-section.

Mark areas that need to be checked

Record the work stage at which the change was noticed and the position of the area on the oven drawing. Do not check the temperature with your hand. After cooling, inspect the available insulation terminations at the entrance, base, and junction with the duct.

Vitcas ceramic fibre blanket is flexible insulation for the described high-temperature systems. Compare the executed layout with the design. A missing strip, disconnected joint, or excessively compressed section requires assessment, even if a large area of the dome is covered.

Layer retention matters

Ceramic Fibre Adhesive is used for specific connections of fibrous insulation to the substrate. The application of adhesive should follow the instructions and the method of retaining the whole layer. Do not treat the addition of a small patch as confirmation of the entire construction.

Under the chamber, there may be rigid ceramic board. Check its proper support and contact with the remaining insulation. Soft blanket and rigid board are not interchangeable in every part of the oven.

Also assess the external covering

Pay attention to signs of moisture, finish damage, and available fastenings. Insulation does not replace a weather protection solution or the required clearances from other materials. Do not reduce them based solely on the temperature specified for the fibre.

After identifying the cause, restore the system according to the oven requirements. Record the thicknesses used and take photographs of covered areas. During the next startup, observe the behavior according to the equipment instructions and compare the results with previous notes.
