Vermiculite Board by a Barbecue: Conditions for a Sheltered Panel

Vitcas vermiculite board for suitable insulation applications

The vermiculite board is a lightweight insulating material, but not every outdoor cover meets its requirements. For a patio grill, describe contact with water and how the panel is retained. Merely placing it under a small awning does not ensure conditions for all edges and connections.

Match the product to the location

The manufacturer describes Vitcas Vermiculite Fire Board for suitable indoor or sheltered applications. The data sheet states resistance up to 1100°C. This value alone does not determine the overall panel's resistance to precipitation and terrace conditions.

Indicate whether the panel will serve as insulation, a shield, or an appropriate replacement part in the device. Each function requires proper support and geometry. Do not accidentally replace the lining specified by the barbecue manufacturer with another board based solely on thickness.

The mounting should match the role

Fit the panel cold and check the edges. In combination with the proper substrate, HB60 can be considered according to its instructions. If the panel is intended to be removable, the retention method must allow this replacement rather than permanently sealing each joint.

Heat-resistant silicone is a different material than adhesive for rigid mounting. Use it only for a compatible connection with specific movement and temperature. Do not treat edge sealing as confirmation of a fully weather-resistant system.

Keep access for inspection

Before finishing, inspect the top, bottom, and metal joints. Water can enter behind the panel from an adjacent surface. Also check areas exposed to impact from equipment or cleaning tools.

Record the board format and its method of installation. After the planned startup, inspect the condition when cold. When replacing, restore the proper function and mounting instead of sticking a new layer to a damaged panel without assessing the remaining substrate.
